personality }
Peter is bitter, cynical and he’s lost his faith in his world and in humanity as a whole. He piles the guilt upon himself, taking responsibility for global warming, the polar ice caps melting and every single thing everyone named Petrelli has ever done and then some. He believes that the world is messed up, screwed up and screwed over because of him and everything he did or didn’t do or foresee or count on. He’s even egocentric to a point in his guilt. He’s determined, defines broody, self-deprecating and overall miserable. He’s alone by choice and by circumstance. He believes that everyone that comes in contact with him is doomed and pushes people away from him but at the same time he needs people to stay even while he’s pushing them away. It’s almost a test.
Despite his solitude, he’s very needy with the people he does allow close. He tries to be distant and cold, succeeding to a point. He’s hard and jaded because nothing has worked out the way he thought it would. However, despite all of this hardness, he’s still got hope. It’s faint and it’s weak and to an extent he tries to extinguish it because he’s afraid it’ll only end in more failure but it is still there. It’s the shadow of who he used to be buried underneath so much pain and guilt. He’s still good hearted but he’s much more willing to deal with collateral damage. He’s more a realist in every way than his past self is. He’s been through a war, he’s fighting a war and he wants it to be over, even at and possibly especially at the cost of his own life. All of that being said, Peter isn’t suicidal and never has been. That pesky hope thing keeps him from that along with a dash of lingering faith in people.
Outside of everything, Peter is loyal. When he loves he will go to the ends of the earth for someone. He will allow himself to be hurt and used over and over again knowing that it’s going to end in pain for him. He just tends to be more guarded now. He knows that he can't trust his loved ones to make decisions that he'll agree with. He knows that his brother betrayed him and his niece wants to kill him. Peter accepts that he has to fight alone, against them. They don't understand the bigger picture because they don't have prophetic dreams and do not possess the ability to paint the future. He has knowledge that they won't accept, so he has to use it on his own.
abilities }
Since Peter has a lot of abilities, I'm going to CP the wiki on his original ability, how it works and because of it, what abilities he has.
Peter is actually an empathic mimic who duplicates the powers of others. His crude levitation sketch shows that he gained Isaac's ability to draw the future, but without needing to be induced by drugs (Don't Look Back). Later, Peter visits Isaac and finishes Isaac's painting without the aid of heroin or any other drug (Hiros).
Early on, Peter's duplicated powers typically only lasted while the person he was mimicking was nearby. He was unable to fly when not in the presence of Nathan, and he became visible when Claude walked away from him, but he was still able to use Isaac's precognition the day after he met him (Don't Look Back). In Distractions, he duplicated Claire's power of regeneration, even though he had not been near her for weeks; this was the first time he ever consciously "recalled" a mimicked power. With the help of Claude, he summons telekinesis which he wasn't even aware of having and later uses flight and space-time manipulation to escape Noah Bennet and the Haitian. After that, he starts to be able to summon powers at will.
While Peter's crude stick figure drawings originally seemed to indicate that he could duplicate only someone's powers, and not their skills, the painting he completed at Isaac's studio seems fairly well done (though not of the same style) and is later able to paint one of his own. This could indicate that his ability is maturing and developing, much like the others with powers.
After Peter first discovered his powers, he generally used one power at any given time. As he gained greater control over his ability, Peter demonstrated that he was able to access multiple powers at once.
After initially discovering his powers, Peter typically used invisibility, flight, and telekinetic powers. He managed to tap into telepathy, precognition, and unfortunately his radioactive power. After he had his mind wiped by the Haitian, Peter developed a favor for using his electrical abilities over his former telekinesis. Peter also seemed to be using telepathy much more and showed much more control and diversity (using enhanced strength, phasing, etc.) in using his powers. After activating Sylar's ability of intuitive aptitude, Peter's control was greatly refined. His telekinetic skills were enough to slice heads off, he used his electrical powers more potently, still seemed to love his invisibility, had used telepathy much more skillfully, and finally started using space-time manipulation for traveling from place to place, and also could correctly time travel.
Peter also possessed Claire's regenerative power. However, the ability is passive in nature, therefore it was always active and didn't require active concentration to use.
Peter has shown these abilities in canon:
Precognitive dreaming from Angela Petrelli (Genesis)
Flight from Nathan Petrelli (Genesis)
Precognition from Isaac Mendez (Don't Look Back)
Space-time manipulation from Hiro Nakamura (Collision)
Rapid cell regeneration from Claire Bennet (Homecoming)
Telepathy from Matt Parkman (Fallout)
Invisibility from Claude Rains (Godsend)
Telekinesis from Sylar (Unexpected)
Induced radioactivity from Ted Sprague (The Hard Part)
Enhanced strength from Niki Sanders (How to Stop an Exploding Man)
Phasing from D.L. Hawkins (Four Months Ago...)
Electric manipulation from Elle Bishop (Four Months Later...)
Super speed from an unknown source (I Am Become Death)-- I know Future!Peter has this one even though it's after the episode I'm taking him from because he shows it when Claire tries to shoot him.
These are the abilities he is exposed to and -probably- has:
Healing (from Daniel Linderman in Villains)--Future!Peter has shown this ability. He brought Nathan back to life after he shot him in the S3 premiere.
Ability absorption (from Arthur Petrelli in Villains)
Persuasion (from Eden McCain in Collision)
Freezing (from Sylar in Homecoming)
Shattering (from Sylar in Homecoming)
Mental manipulation (from the Haitian in Unexpected)
Enhanced hearing (from Sylar in Parasite)--I'm fairly certain future!Peter exhibits this one as well.
Clairvoyance (from Molly Walker in How to Stop an Exploding Man)
Technopathy (from Micah Sanders in How to Stop an Exploding Man)
Alchemy (from Bob Bishop in Four Months Ago...)
Sound manipulation (from Jesse Murphy in One of Us, One of Them)--he used this ability as Jesse
Shape Shifting Ability—I'm honestly not sure who he got it from or where, but he uses it to appear as 'present' Peter in a few episodes.

Muscles gather, tensing at the back of his neck. Peter pushes on, snagging the cap and pulling it as far down on his head as he can to hide his eyes. He doesn’t have a choice and he’s long past lamenting that. He’s traced all the options, gone down every path and seen how they all turn out. This is the only way and he hates it but freedom to make selfish decisions are for people who haven’t accumulated the staggering number of mistakes he carries around.
His shoulders don’t hunch under the weight of what he must do. There’s no place for the whipped puppy here. Numb is the order of the day because if he thinks, if he pauses to remember that this is Nathan before he was lost then he’ll never follow through. He has to follow through; for his future, for Nathan’s, for Claire’s…for the entire world.
“Come on, Pete,” Nathan chuckled then took a sip of his beer. “When are you going to learn? I’m your big brother. I’m always right.”
“You couldn’t have known. You talked to her all of five minutes,” Peter smirked, taking a sip of his own beer.
“Peter, it’s me,” Nathan insisted. “I know women. Especially blondes and you can’t trust them. Now let me hear you say it.”
Peter rolled his eyes but he couldn’t stifle the chuckle. “You’re always right.”
“I’m always right what?” Nathan continued to prod, lips spreading in a wide grin.
“You’re always right, Mighty Master Nathan.”
“Exactly.”
The sound of the gunfire shatters the memory, his arm vibrating from the weapon’s kick. Peter doesn’t stay to see his brother fall and he focuses his mind on what he has to do now. There’s still so much to fix because Big Brother isn’t always right and it was always the brunettes Peter had problems with.
